The Black Heritage Museum & Cultural Center, Inc. is a nonprofit organization with 501 (c)(3) federal tax exempt status. Our mission is to document and preserve Black heritage, culture, and scholarship and use it to encourage, empower, and uplift current and future generations through scholarly engagement, art, and artistic expression, while cultivating critical thought.
Our vision is to secure a location where we can begin to engage in the acquisition, exhibition, preservation and study of works of artistic, historical, and scientific value. We will engage in social, intellectual, and artistic activities that reflect our impact on society and its growth and development. We will elevate and advance discussions on our history and heritage, engage in discourse to advance our cultural, technical, and scientific knowledge through scholarship. We will also continue our ongoing programs that have helped close to 2,000 young people realize their dream of a college education.
We have been building strong relationships and a positive presence within the local community in which we plan to launch our first facility, as well as with the broader communities that we serve. We are now ready to make our vision of an independent brick and mortar institution of Black history, culture, and scholarship a physical reality.
We are beginning Phase One of our efforts to raise funds to have sufficient operating capital for 2012 and the first quarter of 2013, office equipment, and to purchase the building that will be the initial home for our administrative offices, gallery, small theater to support our performing arts, and lecture hall. With your financial support we can also upgrade our website, www.bhmacc.org, to accept online donations, secure the building we hope to purchase located on Main Street in historic Tarboro, North Carolina, and engage in operations from that location.
Our goal for Phase One is to raise $375,000 by the end of 2012 with $200,000 being assigned to the acquisition of the three story brick building mentioned above, and the remaining $175,000 taking us through 2012 and into first quarter 2013 operations.
We would like to request that you give consideration to making our organization one that you support.
Thank you,
Dianne Valentin

Where does Penelahpe's Staff likes to eat: Bamboo Luau and Mali Restaurant and Sweet Georgia Juke Joint
And trust-- We have spent many of late late nights or early mornings savoring the offerings of Bamboo Luau.. so onst again get up get out and get eating. Penelahpe's can feed you more ways than one!!
BACK OF THE HOUSE:
As we move to from the front of the house to the "back of the house" so to speak- to Penelahpe's on-call administrative side staff aka "can you do this please" Ms. Hanifa.
Now Ms. Hanifa and I have cooked together and know each other and are coming to know each others palates pretty well. So I can safely say, she enjoys the sours that are offered in Dandilions greens and that our found in Thia food and good healthy soul food. So when I asked her what is her favorite places to sneak away and eat -- she answered in mid question..Mali Restaurant on Amsterdam and Sweet Georgia Juke Joint
in downtown Atlanta.
Next, As we travel downtown to Sweet Georgia Juke Joint, I remember Ms. Hanifa calling me from this spot excited about the food, the live music and the services offered to her and her work group who rented a private room. Later that evening she stopped by my house and we pulled up the menu and marveled at the offerings. She especially bragged about the house salad that had my mouth watering, truly.
This establishment is Black owned,9the website give a wealth o f history about the "juke joint") and is located downtown Atlanta in the old Macy's building whre valet parking is available. One last note, word on the street is despite the economic tornado effecting all types of businesses, Sweet Georgia has proven to have survived and is a great success, a testiment to its offerings. Please support good food, good music and good times.

PeneLAHpe's Favorite Eats @ Urban Cannibal Bodega + Bites
http://www.facebook.com/urbancannibals?sk=photos#!/urbancannibals
Urban Cannibals Bodega + Bites is owned by a beast of a chef Calavino Donati and her partner in crime, Ms. Doria Roberts, musician extraordinaire and dessert lady. Urban Cannibal located in East Atlanta and serves delicious plates of love.: Sandwiches and the brunches are very nostalgic of me working with her at Calivino's Soul Kitchen. Her french bread creations and the grits and the creamy Tequila Sauce, which I affectionately called "gourmet nacho cheese sauce."...if words could describe.um um um. I loved learning from this chef , she forced me to think more about the creativity of menu development and making dishes your own. Please visit, eat and enjoy: 477 Flat Shoals Ave. 4042309865. closed Mondays
